Concrete poetry
In 2021 I created a concrete poem, ‘Elegy for Moss’, in collaboration with the sculptor Sheena Devitt.
Poetry translations
Camões
I translated a passage from the epic poem Os Lusíadas by the 16th century Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camões – an amazing description of St Elmo’s Fire and a waterspout at sea, which were clearly based on Camões’ experience as a sailor.
‘The Waterspout’ is published at Wild Court.
Chaucer
I’m working on a translation of Chaucer’s masterpiece, Troilus and Criseyde, from Middle English into modern English verse, maintaining the rime royal of the original.
An extract from my translation was awarded third prize in the 2016 Stephen Spender Prize. You can read this on the Stephen Spender website, or download the beautifully produced prize booklet here.
Another extract from my translation, ‘Love’s Arrow’, is published at Wild Court.
